The Benefits Of Sustainable Digital Printing

By Imelda Reid

Ever since historical times the channels of communications that man has been using has changed from the drawings used on stone tablets and scrolls to more evolved and detailed prints. Sustainability is a process that addressees the requirements of a current generation without influencing the ability of the future generation to access the resource. By adapting a sustainable digital printing approach in the print industry that combines sound environmental practices, a clean Eco system is able to be realized.

Despite the upsurge in demand there is need for a cautious and a sustainable approach especially when it comes to printing due to resource consumption and energy conservation. Digital printing can be done in a manner that takes care of needs of current generation and at the same time considers the needs of future generation. These actions not only contribute to resource conservation but also play a crucial part in waste and pollution minimization and energy conservation.

Sustainability does not refer to a single list of actions but it is rather a complex and continuous processes that requires a joint input of all the departments in a manufacturing industry. Hence for manufacturing industries to be able to stay competitive while still employing green technology the approach needs to be systematic and systemic.

Systematic engages green technology methodically for efficacy in synchronization of the technology with the extra subdivisions in the print industry. The technology is amalgamated into the present organization in such a way which it does not generate conflict with any one of the many branches in the paper industry.

The underlying concepts that are employed in green scientific know-how are fundamental in technology. They include the products which entails the design, the unprocessed materials used in processing. Process involves the processing of pre-prints, production of real print and the post print.

Finally, the envelope refers to all the support activities that take place at a printing industry such as the employees who work in the company, the surrounding buildings, all the transportation activities and the maintenance processes. The three main principle concepts form a guideline through which environmental responsibility and policies are identified and developed around various key elements.

Increasing the recycling opportunities is one of the elements. Extraction of renewable energy and the preservation of inadequate resources which in turn results in minimization of waste resources which can be achieved by the use of green vegetable inks on printing surfaces, that do not contain emulsions for petroleum base, Wastes from the consumers papers that results in the production of less waste resulting into good use of energy.

Furthermore, maximization of press sheet can be employed to limit waste by fitting multiple pieces on one large piece of paper. The paper fiber also must be the most environmental-friendly paper fiber which comes from crops and not trees like left over from parts of food that we do not eat, ideal for making paper-pulp and recycling of water used for press-plating imaging machine.
