Captivating Social Justice Topic That Remain Relevant In 2019

By Laura Sullivan

Societies and generations have to deal with unique issues at each era. However, some of the issues are classical because they never die. They mutate and take a fresh twist with every generation. Here is a look at timeless social justice topic and issues that will still dominate 2019. They remain relevant for academic or media discussion without boredom to readers and the audience.

Abortion provides numerous dimensions for debate. As a writer or during dialogue, you can focus on its legality or otherwise. The right of the man in the decision to abort is also a hot topic. Whether abortion is a moral or health issue also continues to divide the world with the debate not appearing to end anytime soon.

The role and presence of women in combat is a debate that continues to simmer. There is a notion that combat is a masculine field. This explains why a lot of women have not been part of top leadership of global armies. Global gender crusaders are out to change the trend. They also want to remove any bottlenecks that could be preventing women from taking up position to defend the country. The notion is that the world would be more secure with women on the lead.

The place of religion in the society is a debate that is yet to be settled. It is made prominent by ancient incidences where religion was given a front role and the actions it is accused of taking. Consider terrorism and yet religion is supposed to be a source of peace. Churches and church leaders have also been accused of preaching water while taking wine because of their atrocious acts. Is it time to finally defrock the religion?

Gender diversity in work places is one of the debates that appear to be endless. The issue is given prominence by the absence of as many women among the top CEOs of global companies. If parity was to be achieved, more women would have to occupy these positions. The debate ranges on whether this is through natural human resource forces or the situation is deliberate.

The world is ready to grant you any wish, unless you are terminally ill and on your death bed. People are opposed to continued suffering people are subjected to just because the law outlaws euthanasia. There is disagreement on whether a person should choose to live or die in particular circumstances. Even when there is clearly no cure, what is the point of allowing a patient to live in pain?

The widening gap between poor workers and their employers has not escaped the attention of global activists. It is made worse by the scenario where multinationals report millions in profits but their workers languish in poverty. It appears that prosperity is not shared. Nothing can justify the fact that a worker cannot afford the goods he or she manufactures. Is the declaration of obscene profits therefore a subject of exploitation?

Discussions on social justice can take different routes. It is important to focus on localized issues because globalizing them sometimes leads to loss of power. To discuss any topic effectively, you need all facts and strong points to support your position. Expect a contrary opinion but you should focus on making a point.
