Opportunities For Female Voice Over Talents

By Christa Jarvis

The world of acting has many more facets that most people even realize. Actors come in many classifications ranging from standard commercials to infomercials, television to big screen, stage to amusement park characterizations and puppeteers to animation vocalizations. The call for female voice over talents is one that is very wide and quite diversified.

This niche of the field of acting is often overlooked because the faces of the actors are rarely ever known, except in circumstance like where a well known star is lending their vocals to the project. In this genre, it is totally all about the way the individual sounds and how well they can use their range of skills. Jobs of this sort are available in many markets and styles.

Many actors get their start working on local level projects that are rarely seen outside of a highly localized area, usually no more than a few counties wide. Productions that often have somewhat bigger budgets and a viewing area encompassing multiple states or territories are on the regional tier. To be considered in the big time, many aim for roles in the national market because those may be aired in zones all across the country and gain widespread recognition.

The types of jobs available are ample and varied, though most people rarely realize that they require actual acting skills. Actors of all vocal ranges and styles are needed to fill the roles of so many different characters, each with a unique personality. This is a field suited for all different speech sounds including pleasant, gruff, high, low, musical, odd and everything in between.

Several types of advertising techniques call for actors with great vocal skills, such as those used in late night infomercials and standard television commercials. In an effort to grab an individual's attention, several websites have started allowing audio internet ads. Though most hardly give it a thought, even those announcements heard in theatrical trailers and before a feature film begins are part of this field.

Animated characters get their personality through an actor's ability to express a variety of emotions through the use of speech only. Many television programs and big screen films have a need for pure vocal skills as well. Though not usually the first thing one thinks of when this genre is mentioned, narrating audiobooks is completely reliant on these performers.

So much more is necessary when trying to secure a position than simply walking into a production facility and letting them hear a great speaking sound. Most actors take on vocal and acting coaches to help hone their skills and invest in creating a quality sample recording. This is submitted to agencies or presented at auditions.

Women and girls who want to use their vocal skills to procure acting positions have a lot of options available to them. The primary requirement are that one be able to speak clearly, have a sound that fits the need of the project, and be talented enough to properly convey emotions and set a mood by voicing the words of a written script. Anyone who is serious needs to be prepared to submit many recordings and go to as many castings as possible in whichever area and level they choose to perform.
