The Best Fantasy Books Of All Time

By Gregory Murphy

The marketing gimmicks employed by authors and publishers are likely to mislead you into picking a book only to realize that it was a waste of time. The only way to know the best fantasy books is from an ardent reader who has devoured hundreds of them over years. Furthermore, there are many fantasy tastes depending on personal preferences. Here are some of the books that sit pretty at the top of the pile.

George R Martin is making waves in this pool with his series A Game of Thrones. It has been a hit across platforms for sometime now. The writer shows mastery of technique and prowess through a string of carefully woven stories that appear distinct yet merge at the right time. Martin shows no mercy to heroes in his work. This makes it impossible to determine who will emerge a hero or loser until you have cleared the last sentence.

Patrick Rothfuss has gifted the world novel entitled The Name of the Wind. The story features a legend who conceals the lives of a woman and a boy and presents an encounter that changes their worlds forever. The boy embarks on a journey to challenge his destiny. Every word and action outlined in this novel is perfect and precise. It is one breath taking roller coaster of a read.

For lovers of ironies, The Blade Itself is the perfect pick. It is a collection of breathtaking action, black humor and faint heroes. How would you fancy a warrior who fears going to war, a golden heart in the chest of a torturer and barbarian not known for killing? The writer has managed to create memorable characters who play a significant role in the most twisted plot.

Ireman M. D is the hand behind The Axe and The Throne. He has perfected the ability to capture your imagination and transfer you into a world that is impossible to exit. He packs enough pain and darkness on every scene but always has a jubilant moment to spice it up. The plot is out of this world with the characters executing it in an unbelievable way.

Lord of the Ring forms part of excellent titles that J. R. R Tolkien has gifted the world. It is considered a transcendent works of art for this century. He has infused English mythology, his experiences during WW I and created modern myths that are believable. Reading the book makes the movie to appear like a rip off.

Post-modern fantasy cannot find any better actualization than what Grossman Lev has done in The Magicians. The title is an example of how to construct a story without repetition of cliches, obvious plots and overused characters. Heroes do not have to win all the time. In other instances, the heroes are plagued by depression or post-traumatic stress.

Other epic fantasy novels include Disc World written by Pratchett Terry, Lies of Locke Lamora which is the work of Lynch Scott and The Way of Kings which is the work of Sanderson Brandon. Some of the best books in this genre exist as single titles while others have been made into series. While some already exist in duality as movies, flipping through the pages adds something to the experience.
