Exciting Childrens Book For Boys

By Enid Hinton

It can be quite a challenge for educators and parents to search out and find reading material that is both age appropriate and interesting to a child. When it comes to the young, especially those in elementary and preschool who are still developing their attention spans, subject matter might be a major factor. Luckily, there are boundless options available when selecting a childrens book for boys.

Young males tend to gravitate towards certain themes and characters. Some of these include such topics as outer space, monsters, knights, dragons, superheroes, construction vehicles, trains, trucks, cars, airplanes and all different types of sports. Those are just a sampling of all the subjects available and they are by no means exclusive to the guys.

The main key to success in this endeavor is to understand the children for whom the books are intended. Knowing their likes and interests can be a great help in selecting stories that are going to light a spark, draw them in and make them want to discover more. Kids are eager to learn and reading is more fun when the subject is appealing.

It is important that a child be exposed to reading material based on their favorite interests, but they should also be exposed to new topics that are equally exciting. This helps them to remain mentally flexible and willing to accept new experiences. The diversity aides them in developing a thirst for discovery and learning in both school and life.

Each level of reading skills will present a new set of options geared specifically towards a particular age or ability. For instance, the very young who still depend on someone else to actually read to them are going to enjoy books with bold and colorful pictures that tell the story through illustration. Many of these titles are based on popular preschool television shows or well known fictional characters.

As they begin to read more for themselves, the illustrations tend to take on a simpler form so that the focus is more on the words. The stories generally consist of two or three short sentences per page, made up of just a few words that rhyme and are easy to sound out. This switch helps the child concentrate on understanding how the sounds come together to explain the pictures.

When a child reaches the point where they are able to read on their own, providing them with tales starring their favorite subject matter is going to help build their interest in reading. Some popular themes for young men are construction sites, animals, different types of vehicles and superheroes. They tend to love the excitement and adventure of such topics.

It is a common tendency of many young readers to become fixated on a particular subject or character and only show an interest in titles bases on those. To accommodate this, publishers acknowledge this pattern and will generate several books or an entire series revolving around the same characters in order to keep the children reading. With such an amazing range of tales and styles, it is increasingly easy to find something that appeals to every child.
